Gmail is a well known email service offered by Google. Most people are using the Gmail interface online, but some prefer to set Gmail up on their email client.

If you plan to use Outlook, you will need to go to File > Email Account > Add new email Account. In the next option you will configure the email account settings manually for Gmail.

POP = Post Office Protocol. This allows the user to download a copy of the emails from the server and Outlook would delete the mails after a few weeks on the server.

IMAP = Internet Message Access Protocol. This allows the user to view the emails from the server and is generally much faster than POP. This is also handy when emails are setup on multiple devices, as every device view the mail and synchronize at the same time.

For POP setup, use the following settings:

Incoming Server

Incoming Server Name: pop.gmail.com

Incoming Server Port: 110

Use SSL (required): Yes

Email: Your full email address

Username: Your full email address (i.e. username@yourdomain.com)

Password: Your email password

Outgoing Server

Outgoing Server Name: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)

Use Authentication: Yes

Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)

Outgoing Server Port: 465 or 587

For IMAP setup, use the following settings:

Incoming Server

Incoming Server Name: imap.gmail.com
