Telnet is a network protocol used on the Internet or local area networks to provide a bidirectional interactive text-oriented communication facility using a virtual terminal connection

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.On the Control Panel Home page, click Programs.
  2. In the Programs and Features section, click Turn Windows features on or off.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. In the Windows Features list, select Telnet Client, and then click OK.


You can now use telnet in Command Prompt to test connections over selective ports.
